RooQi keeps handwriting, typed notes, PDFs and recordings together in one library. This page takes you from a fresh install to your first note.

Before you start

  • iPhone or iPad: iOS / iPadOS 17 or later (current test build).
  • Mac: macOS 14 or later (current test build).
  • You don’t need a RooQi account. iCloud sync uses your Apple Account; subscriptions use your App Store account.

1. Finish the welcome steps

The first time you open RooQi, a short welcome flow appears.

  1. Choose the interface language and appearance, or leave both on Follow System, then tap Get started.
  2. Decide on iCloud sync. The switch starts on; your choice applies only after you tap Continue. You can turn it off and use RooQi only on this device.
  3. Optionally choose a background — one of your own photos or a RooQi background — or tap Set up later. Backgrounds stay on this device and never change your notes or PDFs.

Existing users keep their settings and content; the welcome flow does not reset anything.

2. Create a project and a note

Projects group related notes, canvases, PDFs and recordings.

  1. Choose New Project (on Mac: ⇧⌘N) and give it a name.
  2. Inside the project, choose New Note (on Mac: ⌘N). Use the arrow next to it to create a canvas instead.
  3. Write with your pen or finger, or type. RooQi saves as you go.

3. Bring in what you already have

Use Import PDF, Audio, or Images… to add files to the current project. Supported imports include PDF, PNG and JPG files, photos and existing audio.

4. Record something

Choose New Recording (on Mac: ⇧⌘R). RooQi keeps the original audio and can transcribe it on your device. See Recording and transcription.
