# Sync, export and backup

> Keep your library in sync with iCloud, and export or back up your work.

- Source: https://rooqi.cn/docs/guide/sync-and-backup/
- Platforms: iPhone, iPad, Mac
- Version: RooQi 1.0 (pre-release)
- Status: Pre-release
- Last verified: 2026-10-26 against the 1.0 test build interface and the privacy policy (2026-10-24)
- Known limitations: iCloud sync needs an Apple Account, network access and iCloud storage. RooQi does not describe the iCloud private database as end-to-end encrypted by RooQi.

## iCloud sync

With **Cloud Sync** on, RooQi stores your synced library in your iCloud private database through Apple CloudKit and moves it between your devices. Sync can include notes, handwriting, mind maps, recordings, attachments and AI results.

- The status line shows states such as **Connecting to iCloud** and **Connected to iCloud**.
- Being connected doesn’t mean everything has finished syncing. Keep RooQi open and online for a while, then check again.
- Use **Add to iCloud…** to move a local item into the synced library.

> **Important** Turning sync off does not delete copies already on your devices or in iCloud. Removing a download, moving to Trash and deleting from iCloud are different actions. Don’t delete and recreate your library to fix sync — you could lose items that haven’t synced yet.

## Sync and AI are separate

Turning on iCloud sync never sends anything to AI services, and subscribing to RooQi AI never syncs your library.

## Export and backup

Choose **Export and Backup** or the **Export…** menu on an item:

- **Export RooQi Package** — everything in a document, including original audio, attachments and history.
- **Export PDF**, **Export Text…**, **Export Audio…** for individual formats.

Your device’s system backup may also include RooQi data according to your Apple settings.
